Heatwave (sometimes styled Heat Wave, and known in Spanish as Ola de Calor) is a professional wrestling event produced by WWE. It is currently held for the company’s developmental brand NXT and, since 2026, also for its Mexican subsidiary Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA).
The event originated as an annual pay-per-view from Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), running from 1994 to 2000. After ECW closed in 2001, WWE acquired its assets in 2003.
WWE revived the Heat Wave name specifically for its developmental brand NXT in 2022, restyling it as the single word “Heatwave.” The revival was announced on the July 26, 2022, episode of NXT, marking the first Heatwave under the WWE banner, the eighth overall, and the first since 2000. The initial editions in 2022 and 2023 aired as special episodes of the NXT television program, both held at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. Beginning in 2024, the event transitioned to a full livestreaming premium live event format after WWE discontinued traditional NXT pay-per-views. It has remained an annual summer fixture for NXT ever since. The name reflects its seasonal timing; every edition has taken place in July or August. The 2024 show, held in Canada, occupied the summer slot previously linked to The Great American Bash when that event was not staged outside the United States.
Following WWE’s acquisition of AAA in 2025, a Spanish-language counterpart titled Ola de Calor (Spanish for “Heat Wave”) was introduced in 2026 as a localized version of Heatwave aimed at the Mexican and Latin American markets. The inaugural Ola de Calor is scheduled for August 30, 2026, at the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, Texas. It serves as the opening half of a same-day doubleheader, taking place immediately before NXT Heatwave in the same venue, and features a mix of AAA talent alongside select WWE/NXT performers. The event streams on FOX across Latin America and on YouTube and Facebook in other territories. Notable attractions include a contract signing between AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano ahead of their title match at Triplemanía 34, an AAA World Tag Team Championship defense by the War Raiders against Los Americanos, a fatal four-way for the vacant AAA Latin American Championship, a gauntlet match to determine the next challenger for the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship, a trios bout pitting Penta, Rey Fénix, and Dragon Lee against Los Perros del Mal, and the in-ring debut of El Carnicero.
