The Greater Yellowlegs is a shorebird that breeds throughout Newfoundland and can be seen in marshes, and along the edges of lakes and ponds. Compared to other shorebirds, the Greater Yellowlegs is often rather solitary. In migration they may associate with other individuals but these groups are loose, and rarely interact beyond traveling together. The Greater Yellowlegs eats small aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates, small fish, amphibians, seeds, and berries. The Greater Yellowlegs is 29 to 40 centimeters long, weighs 111 to 250 grams, and has a wingspan of approximately 60 centimeters.
