Bird Watching in My Backyard: The Brown Cuckoo Dove is the 80th species to visit my backyard. I think it may be just passing through as this is not their normal habitat, but I hope it decides to stay.
Habitat: They are found in rainforests, woodlands, scrubland and rainforest regrowth areas along the east coast of Australia from Bega in southern NSW to Cape York in Queensland. They can be nomadic (depending on the supplies of food) and have been seen in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and the Philippines The doves are often seen in pairs.
Breeding: Breeding occurs in Spring and Summer. The nest is a flat platform of sticks and vines, either in a fork of a tree or on top of a low tree. One, creamy white, egg is laid.
