Neither the free nor the premium version of Clipchamp imposes a strict limit on the length of video exports. You can export videos of any duration, such as 2.5 hours or longer, in both versions. However, Microsoft recommends keeping videos under 10 minutes for optimal performance due to potential hardware limitations, as longer videos require more processing power, memory, and disk space.
To run Clipchamp smoothly, your device needs to meet the following system requirements:
Desktop Editor (Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebooks):
- Operating System: A 64-bit OS is required. For Windows, Windows 10 or Windows 11 (version 23H2 or later recommended). Mac and Linux systems are supported via browser.
- Browser: Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome (latest 64-bit versions).
- Memory (RAM): Minimum 8 GB, 16 GB or higher recommended for smooth performance.
- Graphics Card: A recent model is recommended, as video editing is GPU-intensive.
- Storage: Sufficient free space on the internal drive, more than the size of your project’s media files, for temporary files and video processing.
- Internet: Stable connection required, as Clipchamp is cloud-based and needs internet access to function and save progress.
- Processor: A recent CPU is recommended for compute-intensive tasks.
Windows App (Windows 10/11):
- Available via Microsoft Store for Windows 10 or pre-installed on Windows 11. Same hardware requirements as above apply.
- For work/school versions, app availability depends on Microsoft 365 administrator settings.
Mobile App (iOS):
- Operating System: iOS 14 or later (iOS 17 or later for full functionality).
- Device: iPhone X or newer recommended for optimal performance.
- Not optimized for tablets or smartphones on the desktop editor; use the mobile app instead.
Additional Notes:
- Keep the Clipchamp browser tab in the foreground and close other applications to avoid performance issues.
- For 4K video editing, compress files to 1080p beforehand to reduce processing time.
- Older computers may experience slow performance, freezing, or crashing if minimum requirements aren’t met.
These requirements ensure a smooth editing experience across Clipchamp’s personal, work, or education versions.
