Did you know that some of the animals at the L.A. Zoo receive acupuncture?! Each month, Veterinarian Dr. Heather Oxford visits the elderly group of goats and works with the Zoo’s animal care team to provide joint relief with acupuncture and laser treatments. As animals age, they can experience the same ailments that we do. These acupuncture and laser treatments help alleviate arthritic and joint pressure, making these goats more comfortable in their older age. Providing the best wellbeing for the animals in our care can take many different shapes, sizes, and methods to ensure that every animal is thriving at the Zoo, so it’s no surprise that this form of alternative medicine has become standard practice for the geriatric animals at the L.A. Zoo.
